Dental hygiene involves regular professional tooth cleaning and the removal of tartar. It is the single most important preventive measure for keeping teeth and gums healthy in the long term.
Attractive teeth and healthy gums are an important basis for social success in society today and in everyday working life. Good oral health also has a positive effect on your wellbeing and your physical performance.
Our modern, prophylaxis-focused practice makes it possible for you to keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime. Children, adolescents and young adults in particular benefit over the long term from these preventive measures. Tooth decay and periodontitis really are not inevitable.
Periodontitis is a bacterial inflammation which begins as an inflammation of the gums and spreads to the tooth-supporting structures, the periodontium, over time causing largely irreversible destruction of the alveolar bone. Periodontitis is often painless, yet almost every adult is affected by it to a greater or lesser degree at some point in life. In the over-forty age group, more teeth are lost to periodontitis than to tooth decay.
Regular check-ups with the dentist or the dental hygienist, combined with professional tooth cleaning every six to twelve months, can prevent periodontal inflammation to a very large extent. Where the risk of inflammation is increased, whether temporarily through pregnancy or permanently through severe stress combined with smoking, the intervals between hygiene appointments should be shortened so that changes in the periodontium can be addressed as early as possible.
The main indications for root canal treatment are irreversible damage to the pulp, with or without involvement of the periodontal tissue. Root canal treatment is contraindicated for teeth that cannot be functionally restored, or teeth that are not worth preserving because destruction of the periodontium (gum disease) has advanced too far. For a severely damaged tooth, the cost-benefit ratio and the long-term prognosis should also always be weighed against an implant-based solution.
Nickel-titanium instruments have brought a breakthrough in root canal treatment. Thanks to these high-quality, reliable instruments, mechanically assisted root canal treatment is more promising today than ever before.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium or ceramic which is placed in the jawbone in place of the original tooth, where it heals firmly into position. Both individual ceramic teeth (crowns) and complete dentures can then be attached to it, either fixed or removable.
